Know your character. If you know your character, it cuts down on a lot of confusion for yourself and everybody else, as well as increasing the odds of your character making a visible impact on the dynamic of the X-RP. This doesn't mean that you necessarily need to know your character's history and future off by heart, but, as with any other kind of writing, in order to have a believable character, you need to know how they'd react to things at their current stage of development.
Know your power. Definitions of the powers are provided on the main site. Please read yours and the others and be aware of the limitations and advantages to each of them. Keep this firmly in mind when you post.
You may NOT change or alter your power in any way. You may alter your control over your power as you wish, but the power itself must remain true to its definition.
There are two types of NPCs: Active and Passive. While you may create and use passive NPCs, you may not create an active NPC.
You are responsible for any passive NPCs that you create.
Currently, you are only allowed One PC.
Currently, you may not play on the side of the Bad Guys Your character may be evil, but s/he must play on the side of the Good Guys.
There are several threads active during any given round of play:
OOC Thread:
All OOC comments are to be posted here This thread may be used as a primary or secondary source of communication for players. Unless you are discussing something in private with another player, it is recommended you use the OOC Thread to discuss things as all players have access to it.
You are required to read all OOC posts in order to keep yourself abreast of everything that is happening in the X-RP.
Game Thread:
All characters included in the current adventure are to post their IC posts here. This is the thread where the current adventure is run.
You are required to read all IC posts in the game thread, regardless of whether or not your are included in the adventure. The adventures are connected to each other and something that happens in one, may affect what happens in the next.
Waiting Room:
All characters not included in the current adventure may post their IC posts here. This thread is for character development and sub-plot development during rounds of play in which your character is excluded from the actual adventure. This allows for the team dynamic to strengthen and cement itself. It is recommended that you participate in the waiting room when not involved in an adventure.
You are required to be aware of what's going on in the Waiting Room, even if you are currently involved in an adventure Things that happen in the Waiting Room affect team dynamic and character development, and it is very important to keep up to date on the developments of our teammates in order to be able to post/interact with them believably
Any RP can be a time-suck, and the X-RP is no exception. Please make sure you that have enough time to participate in this RP actively, particularly since there is such a small character cap on the RP. If the DMs feel that you do not have the time/interest to participate actively in the RP, they reserve the right to remove you and your character from the RP to open up the spot for another character.
When replying to a message, please reply to the last message posted, as opposed to the last message your character was involved in or mentioned. This is for clarity's sake, as it makes the thread much easier to read and keep track of. Keep the posts in RL Chronological order.
There are two different kinds of plots for each adventure: backbone plots, and subplots. The Backbone plot is decided on and run by the DMs, and is non-negotiable. You may react as you see fit to the events of the backbone plot, but the core of the plot does not change. Subplots, on the other hands, are plots that take place between characters (such as a romance, rivalry, history, etc.) and are completely up to the characters involved in them.
Sentence Structure, and Correct Grammar and Spelling is a must. Your posts should be written in the English Language, with at least the basics of grammar. Periods, commas, and quotation marks are a must. Double spacing between paragraphs is highly recommended, as the message board does not allow for indenting. Most word processors (such as MS Word, Corel Word Perfect, etc.) have spell checks. Please make use of them.
OOC notes and posts are to be placed in the OOC Thread, unless they are very brief notes used for explanatory purposes in a post. In which case you may attach it to the bottom of your IC post after your signature (i.e. Jade Mackenzie. OOC: note).
In the case that someone has used your character in some way with which you disagree, or done something that went against one of your plots, sort it out politely and quickly. Attempt to work it out with the offending player first. If this fails, take it to the DMs.
Any major event, situation, condition, action, etc. which directly involves another player's character must be discussed with said player beforehand. The player reserves the right to request that a post be deleted that directly involves their character and was not discussed beforehand. Should the DMs agree that the post was out of hand, the post will be deleted and sent to the offending player for editing.
Read all posts made to the News Thread. Moreover, major changes made to the RP in anyway will be posted here by the DMs.
You are responsible for keeping up with the messages and posts, on any and all threads at the X-RP.
You are responsible for keeping in communication with the DMs, and the other players, as well as keeping up to date on shifts in plot in the game thread and character development in the Waiting Room thread, regardless of which you are active in.
You are responsible for your own character's development. Don't expect to have subplots just jump out at you, or character interaction to just happen. It's nobody's job but yours to develop your character, and it's nobody's fault but yours if it doesn't happen. Character development, and character subplots and rivalries take effort. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
You are responsible for your own NPCs. No one else is. Do not expect others to look after them for you. Remember that the only NPCs allowed are passive NPCs.
You are responsible for posting regularly, and for letting the DMs know when you will be unable to. Without a valid excuse for your absence, the DMs reserve the right to remove you from the RP completely and open up your spot for another player.
When making plans that involve a character besides your own, you are responsible for contacting that character's player and running the plans by him/her before implementing them. Any serious, dramatic or extreme action taken on behalf of a character, without the player's advanced knowledge, may be deleted without warning. DMs have the final say on whether or not a post of this nature is pulled.
You are responsible for making sure your bio is accurate and properly formatted, as well as up to date.
You are responsible for being polite, mature, and cooperative with the other players, as well as the DMs. If you prove yourself lower than what is considered an acceptable maturity level, you may be asked to leave. Keep in mind that maturity and age are two different things.
You are responsible for accepting the decision of the DMs as final. If you cannot, you may be asked to leave.
You have a responsibility to respect the rules and abide by them.
You have the right to dispute any action against your character that was not cleared through you and goes dramatically against what you want for your character, or what your character would do in a given situation. Your character is your creation, and no one has the right to mistreat it.
You have the right to be notified if and when your post has been deleted, as well as knowing why it was pulled.
You have the right to be respected when contacted OOC in any manner and in any circumstance.
You have the right to resign your character from the X-RP at any time you would like, HOWEVER, you must inform the DMs of your decision prior to the action itself.
You have the right to at least two (2) warnings before the DMs decide to ban you completely from any further participation in the X-RP.
While you do not have the right to participate in all adventures taking place in the X-RP, you have the right to participate in an amount that is fair compared to everyone else's participation The adventures are easier to run with less people, but the decision made behind who is included in any given adventure will be fair.
You have the right to turn down any adventure you do not want to be part of.
