Powers

Following is the list of powers possessed by the mutant characters in the X-RP. To view the detailed description of a particular power, click on the appropriate link to be taken to its location in the document. Each power is linked to its mutant owner in the "Characters" section of the website. Mutant powers are listed alpabetically.

Mutant power Acid Touch
What it is Your body can secrete a liquid substance (similar to sweat) that burns through inorganic matter. The substance is harmless to you because of its lack of effect on organic matter. The amount it takes to burn through an object depends on the object's thickness, density and matter type (i.e. quasi-instantaneous for a sheet of paper, 5 seconds for the barrel of a gun, 30 - 60 seconds for a regular concrete wall, etc.).
Proper use Example 1: efficiently destroying documentation
Example 2: destroying bonds (handcuffs, rope, etc.)
Example 3: rough sculpting
Improper use Example 1: melting objects (this power essentially incinerates)
Example 2: inflicting injuries upon an organic target
Example 3: produce enough secretions to bottle & re-sell or re-use
Owner Joseph Elias Patroski

Mutant power Air, manipulation
What it is Simply put, you can manipulate any and all gaseous particles in a given area.
Proper use Example 1: creation of wind
Example 2: extraction of air
Example 3: manipulation of pressure
Improper use Example 1: creation of thunderstorms or rain
Example 2: changing the types of particles in the air (i.e. from oxygen to helium)
Example 3: flying
Owner Katarina Howard

Mutant power Dimension Swap
What it is Through an immense psychic feat, you can physically switch your current position with that of another willing individual. You are basically 'trading places'. You can also dimension swap other, small, unattended objects. You have tapped into the fabric of the universe and are able to switch objects'/peoples' physical coordinates in space. Dimension swapping between you and another individual is more complicated than swapping two objects because people are comprised of both soul and body -- this is why the target must 'let' the transfer happen, lest accidents occur. The swap 'call' you send to your intended target is a gentle tug at their mind -- like a child pulling the hem of its mother's skirt. The intended target must be within reasonable range.
Proper use Example 1: switching positions with an ally in combat
Example 2: switching positons with a person in another room
Example 3: switching an empty pop can nearby for a full can from the fridge
Improper use Example 1: switching positions with an enemy in combat
Example 2: switching the gun someone's holding for a paperclip lying nearby
Example 3: swapping positions with an animal or insect
Owner Justin Michael McCown

Mutant power Invisibility, light
What it is You have the ability to manipulate light, which in turn grants you the ability to manipulate depth and perspective. This ability takes concentration and is increasingly harder to maintain as the subject of manipulation gets bigger.
Proper use Example 1: rendering yourself and/or other things invisible
Example 2: removing the appearance of dimension from an object
Example 3: removing light, thus creating shadow
Improper use Example 1: changing pigments or non-reflective colors
Example 2: making people see things that aren't there
Example 3: making an entire building disappear
Owner Marcellis Sinclair

Mutant power Metaphysical Weapon
What it is Using your limited connection to ambient psychic energies, you can manifest a semi-solid weapon of your choosing. This power is activated and maintained by thought; the weapon produced remains until it is willfully dismissed, or until you lose concentration. Losing consciousness will dismiss the weapon. The weapon you choose to create will weigh as much as a typical weapon of that size and type. Once you release your weapon, it dissipates within seconds.
Proper use Example 1: creating non-mechanical ranged weapons (i.e. bow & arrows)
Example 2: creating two one-handed weapons
Example 3: throwing a psychic knife a short distance
Improper use Example 1: creating a mechanical weapon (i.e. a gun/bullets)
Example 2: creating & weilding an oversized weapon
Example 3: giving your weapon to another person
Owner Heitham Atkinson

Mutant power Phasing
What it is You can dismiss and re-form the particle bonds keeping your body together, thus granting you the ability to pass through solid substances. This ability is triggered by will and the effect lasts for a short time only -- any action(s) taken while 'phasing' must be performed quickly in order to avoid potentially fatal mishaps.
Proper use Example 1: pass through a wall or another person
Example 2: temporarily dismiss and re-form a limb
Example 3: break a fall by quickly dismissing and re-forming
Improper use Example 1: assuming your reaction time is increased
Example 2: 'dismissing' for an extended period of time (vanishing, essentially)
Example 3: phasing through something the length of a transport
Owner Victory Fortune Erikson

Mutant power Psychic Knowledge
What it is Touching an inanimate object reveals psychic impressions left upon it by recent or past events that've occurred where someone has come into direct contact with it. The knowledge gained about the object is most commonly translated into an emotion or a series of emotions, or into a simple truth. Longer exposure to an object sometimes reveals different impressions. Unattended objects reveal nothing about an event during which they have not been directly manipulated.
Proper use Example 1: knowing that an argument over the object took place
Example 2: knowing that an object was used to kill someone
Example 3: knowing approximately how many owners an object has had
Improper use Example 1: learning someone's name or other personal data
Example 2: getting visual or auditory replay of past events
Example 3: knowing exact details surrounding an event
Owner Charlotte D'Ore

Mutant power Replication
What it is You are capable of overwriting your own DNA with a replication of someone else's. When initiated by an act of extended physical contact, your cells can recode their DNA to match your target's -- thus granting you the target's physical attributes and appearance. Any non-genetic flaws are not copied. The replication is triggered by will and does not occur each time there is prolonged physical contact between yourself and another person. Please note: the section of your original DNA that defines your mutation (in other words, your mutant power) is never overwritten during replication.
Proper use Example 1: impersonation
Example 2: switching race, gender, etc.
Example 3: fooling biometric security devices (i.e. iris scan)
Improper use Example 1: acquiring a mutant target's mutant power
Example 2: acquiring a non-genetic deformity (i.e. a scar)
Example 3: replicating swiftly (note: this will result in a partial replication)
Owner Andrew Mitchell

Mutant power Retribution, pain-return
What it is Your body has devised a clever defense mechanism that uses a passive psychometabolic link to reflect your pain unto your attacker -- basically, your brain is rejecting the shock of being hurt and reacting to it by projecting the illusion of pain into your attacker's mind. Only the pain is shared, not the wound that caused it; ability only works when shared between animate creatures and is immediate in effect (it only hurts on impact -- lingering pain is not shared). Note that reflected pain must stem from wounds dealt through creature-to-creature contact and does not work on ranged attacks.
Proper use Example 1: Sharing pain from a knife wound
Example 2: Sharing disabling pain (dual knockout from a fist fight)
Example 3: Someone twisting your arm will feel it in theirs
Improper use Example 1: Returning the pain dealt by a gunshot
Example 2: Harming yourself and expecting it to harm another
Example 3: Sharing any physical signs of wounding (redness, cuts, etc.)
Owner John Magnus

Mutant power Sixth sense, awareness
What it is You have a heighted awareness of everything within a 100 foot radius of you. You know what's going on around you without really using your other senses to figure it out. You can 'see' past walls and other barriers, simply because you 'know' what lies beyond them. Your mind's eye does not see depth, color or detail.
Proper use Example 1: keeping track of more than one person in a fight
Example 2: knowing where everyone is
Example 3: seeing hidden passageways
Improper use Example 1: seeing through peoples' clothes
Example 2: premonition
Example 3: knowing what a conversation you can't hear is about
Owner Jade Mackenzie

Mutant power Telekinesis
What it is By combining physical energy with psychic energy, you have the ability to move objects without the need for physical contact. This requires a tremendous amount of concentration, and becomes extremely difficult when tackling large-scale tasks.
Proper use Example 1: moving objects around the room
Example 2: levitation
Example 3: reshaping things (i.e. bending a spoon)
Improper use Example 1: psychic blasts
Example 2: mind reading
Example 3: teleportation
Owner Bran Griffin

Mutant power Temporal Statis
What it is At will, you can freeze time for yourself and any touched object(s) or creature(s); this power requires direct physical contact on your part. You and the frozen target(s) are locked in the timeframe in which you used the power until you choose to release it; while frozen, you and your target(s) do not 'exist' in the current timeframe. Anything that goes on in the current timeframe does not affect you. You have literally blinked out of existence for a short moment. While frozen, you and your target(s) cannot be touched (as you're not actually there), but you can be seen. While frozen, a person attempting to touch you or your target(s) will simply pass through you/your target(s); where you/your target(s) were, the person's hand will 'disappear', reappearing on the other side. Important: if you release the statis while something is where you/your target(s) were (such as part of a person's outreached arm or hand), that thing will cease to exist. Releasing the statis causes a temporal shock wave to burst out from your position, knocking any creatures within a twenty-foot radius of you off their feet. The statis field is harder to maintain the longer you maintain it. While frozen, you can think but not act, and you see (for the duration of the statis) what was in your direct sight at the time you initiated the statis.
Proper use Example 1: freezing yourself/others in order to avoid damage
Example 2: freeze an enemy to buy time
Example 3: timing the field release to destroy an incoming item
Improper use Example 1: knocking down walls with the shock wave
Example 2: freezing a target through indirect contact (holding a rope)
Example 3: neglecting to freeze yourself along with your target(s)
Owner Krysta Armistead

Mutant power Water, manipulation
What it is You can manipulate any and all water molecules in a given area.
Proper use Example 1: guiding water from one place to another
Example 2: shaping water
Example 3: drawing a portion of water from an organism
Improper use Example 1: making it rain
Example 2: drawing all water from a single organism
Example 3: creating a tidal wave
Owner Lila Gammon
