| About us |
The X-RP is a free style (which simply means that the RP is played almost as though it was a story with multiple authors) Role-Playing Game inspired by, but not based on, The Uncanny X-Men, owned by Marvel Comics. What this means is that the ideas put forth in the X-Men series -- that there are two types of humans, normal ones and mutants, that a mutant's powers are genetic, etc. -- will be used for the RP, but the actual characters (i.e., Professor X, Cyclops, Wolverine, etc.) are not available, or even existent in the world in which the RP will take place. Think of it as an alternate universe where a different set of X-men have stepped forward to preserve mankind.
There is a catch, however.
The catch is simply this: you do not choose your own power. Once you are accepted into the X-RP, the DMs will choose your power more or less randomly from a list. Scott Summers didn't just wake up one day and choose to shoot uncontrollable blasts of energy from his eyes, and part of the challenge of this RP is that you won't either. You won't know your power until after your application has been approved and you've been accepted into the RP. After that, the power is yours to do with as you will. After you've received your power, you will then create your bio.
There really shouldn't be too much of a problem with the powers. You needn't worry about getting something horribly inane, such as the ability to grow a flower out of your ear. All of the powers will be useful, and workable; pretty standard mutant fare. Keep in mind the DMs will be playing in the RP as well, so it's not like we're going to assign you something positively useless, because it limits us as well as you.
If, however, you simply don't like the power you're given, then I'm afraid it's just too bad. If you agree to join the X-RP, you agree to accept whatever power you're given and do with it what you can. There is NO trading powers with other PCs, and there is NO altering the power you're given. The powers will all be clearly defined, so you'll know what you can and can't do with it, and any other questions about it can be forwarded to one of the DMs.
As with most RPs, the final say on everything lies with the DMs, and their decisions, including those regarding powers, are final.
As of right now, no. Your character can be as evil as you want, but keep in mind that for at least the first few adventures, they will be playing on the side of Good. This is for several reasons, not the least of which, is that it will be easier on the DMs to run the plots if all the other PCs are on the same side. This may change with time as the RP conforms to the characters, but that remains to be seen.
We are currently looking at a character cap of ten (10) PCs (player characters), plus the two DMs (Dungeon Masters, or Moderators if you prefer. They are: Jade (mookgray@hotmail.com) and Marcy (catcolada@hotmail.com)). Players will be chosen based on things such as writing ability, maturity, and possibly on previous free style role playing experience (though this isn't necessary to be accepted into the RP). As such you will be asked to submit a sample of your writing (500-1000 words (or half a page to a page). Creative narrative (stories) is preferred to things such as an essay, as fictional writing is the medium used for the X-RP. You don't need to write something specifically for the application. Feel free to copy and paste from something you've previously written if you've something available. You will be notified via the e-mail you give us through the application form whether or not you are accepted into this round of playing, so please make sure your e-mail address is correct.
Please do not let the writing sample requirement scare you off. We aren't looking for bestsellers, just people who have a good grasp of the ins and outs of creative narrative.
If you are not accepted into this round of play, and are still interested in playing in future rounds, simply let us know and we will keep your application for future reference. Keep an eye on the "Join us" section for available positions.
